Susan Murphy MVB DipECVS MRCVS Veterinary Specialist

RCVS & European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery

Susan graduated from University College Dublin in 2006. After leaving university she spent five years working in equine and small animal practice in Ireland before moving to the UK to pursue specialist training.

She joined the team at Fitzpatrick Referrals in 2012 and completed a surgical internship and a residency in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery before becoming a diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) in February 2019. During her residency, her research focused mainly on the management of osteochondral defects and she has publications in international journals on the topic. She was working as a Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon at Fitzpatrick Referrals for a number of years before joining the team at East Neuk Veterinary Clinic in September 2021.

She is recognised as a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery (EBVS®) and a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. There are only a few surgeons in Scotland with similar qualifications. East Neuk Veterinary Clinic is lucky to have two such specialists with Pádraig Egan also working at the clinic. To learn more about the challenges involved with reaching specialist stats you can visit the ECVS and RCVS websites.

Susan has been an active contributor to the surgical training of interns and residents in addition to providing orthopaedic lectures to the veterinary students at Surrey Vet School. While Susan enjoys all aspects of small animal surgery her particular interests lie in complex fracture repair, arthroscopy and joint resurfacing.

Outside of work Susan enjoys travelling, spending time with friends and family, the outdoors, and all water-related activities!!
