Pádraig Egan

RCVS & European Specialist in Small animal Surgery

Pádraig graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh, in 2007. He began his career working in his home town of Leeds at a charity clinic, followed by three years working as a mixed vet in Haddington and a year working as an emergency and critical care vet in Glasgow.

After completing a surgical internship and surgical residency at Fitzpatrick Referrals in Surrey, Pádraig achieved his ECVS Surgical Diploma in February 2019 at the first attempt and was subsequently recognised as an EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery and RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. There are only a few surgeons in Scotland with similar qualifications. East Neuk Veterinary Clinic is lucky to have two such specialists with Susan Murphy also working at the clinic.

During his surgical training Pádraig published widely on the management of osteochondral defects in the canine and continues to contribute to research on orthopaedic disease in dogs and cats. While Pádraig enjoys all aspects of small animal surgery, his particular areas of clinical interest are the management of canine cruciate disease and management of the feline trauma patient. 

Pádraig lectures widely across Europe to help educate veterinary surgeons about small animal orthopaedics. East Neuk also offers training to the specialists of tomorrow with a training programme recognised by the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. Our current surgical resident, Jake Chitty, will spend the next three years training alongside the East Neuk surgical team before being eligible to sit examinations that will allow him to call himself a veterinary specialist.

Outside of work Pádraig exhausts many hours attempting to train his two unruly Dachshunds!
